Digital twin: an explorable 3D version of your space.

A digital twin is an exact digital counterpart of a physical space, built with its measurements, light and materials. At Viniona, the digital twin of a store, showroom or apartment is an interactive 3D space that can be explored online at real scale.

What is a digital twin of a space for?

A digital twin of a space lets customers understand it properly without visiting. Because scale, distance and light are true to life, visitors walk around inside the space instead of looking at a photo.

  • Sales: Products are viewed in their place in the store and bought.
  • Real estate: An apartment can be toured before construction ends; rooms and distances are seen at real scale.
  • Promotion: Showrooms, exhibitions and trade-show spaces never close and are visited from anywhere in the world.
  • Options: Colour, material and furniture options are tried live inside the space.

What is the difference between a digital twin and a virtual tour?

A virtual tour is the general name for showing a space online; it is often made of 360° photos. A digital twin is a 3D counterpart built with the space’s measurements. That is why you can walk around freely, interact with products and change details.

Is it different from an industrial digital twin?

Yes. Digital twins used in factories and city planning monitor machines or systems with live data from sensors. Viniona’s digital twins focus on how a space looks and feels: the goal is for customers to explore the space online, close to the real thing, and to look at the products.

How is a digital twin of a space made?

We start from the plan or a description of the space. The plan becomes a 3D space true to its measurements; then products, light, materials and interactions are added, and the space is tested and published. The steps differ a little by solution:

  • Store

Architectural plan or description, 3D files of your products, Shopify integration.

  • Home

Only a floor plan; interior design and switchable options.

Example: the Blackbörk virtual store

Blackbörk viStore, Exterior: store building with a glass dome and wing-shaped canopy; “BlackBörk Vi-Store” sign at the entrance.

In the virtual store we built for Blackbörk, the store’s architecture, lighting and product layout were rebuilt at their real scale and texture.

Visitors can walk around, shop and interact in many ways. The store opens from a single link, with no app, plug-in or install.

Digital twin FAQ

Is a digital twin the same as a 3D model?

Every digital twin is a 3D model, but not every 3D model is a digital twin. In a digital twin, measurements, light and materials are true to the real space, and you can walk around inside it.

Does the space need to exist for a digital twin?

No. We build the digital twin from the plan, so a home under construction or a store that hasn’t opened yet can be explored too.

Which devices does a digital twin open on?

It opens in the web browser from a single link. It works the same way on desktop, phone and tablet; no app or install is needed.

Can colours and materials be changed in a digital twin?

Yes. We add systems that switch furniture, lighting, wall colour and flooring; visitors try the options as they walk around.
